International policies offer the following standard policy features for NZDF members:

• Selected cover* for epidemic and pandemic diseases such as Covid-19
• Cover for medical and repatriation expenses
• Emergency assistance provided 24 hours/7 days a week
• Replacement cover for baggage items less than two years old. Depreciation will be otherwise applied to claims for luggage and personal effects at such rate as reasonably determined by Allianz Partners.
• Dependent Children under 21 years covered at no additional charge
• Rental vehicle excess cover
• Missed Connections / Travel Delays
• Loss of Deposits / Cancellation of Journey Paid in Full
• Participation in recreational sports, for example:
  • leisure skiing and snowboarding within ski resort boundaries;
  • hot air ballooning;
  • parasailing;
  • paragliding;
  • bungee jumping;
  • white water rafting in grade 5 or more rivers;
  • scuba diving underwater no greater than 30 metres, providing that you hold an open water diving license which is recognised in New Zealand, or you are diving with an instructor licensed for this activity.

You can also ask us for the following:

• Increased cover for specified high-value items (Comprehensive only)
• Cover for Pre-Existing Medical Condition(s) (Comprehensive only)

Your request will be subject to an assessment which can be done online prior to purchasing your New Zealand Defence Force Leisure Travel Insurance policy, and if accepted, an additional premium may be payable.

*There is no cover for lockdowns, changes in government alert levels, quarantine or mandatory isolation applying to a population or part of a population. As with any travel insurance, disinclination to travel due to fear or change of mind is not covered.

To make a claim, please click here to be taken to the online claims portal.

As part of your claim, you may be required to:

1. provide supporting documentation such as original invoices, receipts, and other vouchers relating to your expenses or loss
2. produce your policy details
3. provide all the information we require so that your claim can be considered

You can lodge your claim by calling Allianz Partners on 0800 800 048 (+64 9 486 0048 from overseas) and by submitting the fully completed claim form.

For loss or theft of your baggage or personal effects, you must notify the local police or local government authority within 24 hours, and you must obtain a copy of the incident report.

For loss or damage to your personal baggage whilst in the care of the carrier (airline, bus company etc.), you must notify the carrier immediately and seek compensation.   Once an outcome is received, and a settlement is reached, if you did not receive the total amount claimed from the carrier, you have a provision to claim for the difference.   At this point, you should submit a claim with Allianz Partners, and provide all of the relevant documentation from the carrier, detailing what was covered and what was not covered, providing receipts and as much proof of purchase as possible.

When you call, Allianz Partners require:

1. your name
2. your policy number
3. details describing your emergency
4. a contact phone number, including an area code

An overseas policyholder preference applies. Under Australian law, if The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd is wound up, its assets in Australia must be applied to its Australian liabilities before they can be applied to overseas liabilities. To this extent, New Zealand policyholders may not be able to rely on The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd’s Australian assets to satisfy New Zealand liabilities.
