00:18
so we work with military personnel who
00:21
are looking at transitioning sometime in
00:23
the future either very close like
00:25
they've filed with 717s or five years
00:28
out of end of engagement so as a
00:30
transition coach our role is to help
00:32
people who are thinking about leaving or
00:34
definitely leaving the defence force we
00:36
work across the country we've got
00:38
someone at each of the camps and bases
00:40
and here at defence house they might
00:42
come in here and not have any idea what
00:45
they might be doing when they leave that
00:46
for various reasons they might be
00:47
leaving they're a myriad
00:49
and so our role is to help them think
00:51
about who they are what they need what
00:53
their skills are what their interests
00:55
are
00:57
we are a service that was put in place
00:59
specifically for our rf personnel
01:02
because these are the people that have
01:03
spent a long time here and perhaps might
01:05
have the most trouble transitioning out
01:06
to the civilian world regular force is
01:09
our focus however we do run workshops
01:11
and these workshops are run at all camps
01:13
and bases and we work with regular force
01:14
one-on-one but we also um
01:17
do invite civilians to come into our
01:19
workshops as well and that sort of
01:21
civilian ncdf staff as well as
01:25
family of regular force and
01:28
reserves too
01:30
primarily they would contact us through
01:32
our email addresses
01:34
which can be found on the ilp we do have
01:38
a transition unit at nzdf.mil.nc
01:41
email that you can email into and that
01:43
will send it to the appropriate coach
01:45
wherever they're based
01:48
the first thing we do is find a time
01:50
that's going to be appropriate for both
01:51
parties we'll typically send out a
01:53
calendar invite they will come and see
01:55
us we will work out in our first session
01:57
uh sessions are typically an hour
02:00
what it is they need
02:01
and generally it's to help them
02:04
navigate what's next so it could be
02:05
about making decisions
02:07
or it could be about
02:09
understanding themselves and what those
02:12
next steps are
02:14
and it could also be about
02:16
just
02:17
how to go about finding employment and
02:19
and what supports there are outside of
02:22
the nzdf for them as well
02:24
we are not in uniform so we don't have
02:27
to report up or down the chain any
02:29
conversations that we have with someone
02:31
stay within that room all the team have
02:34
agreed to adhere to the code of ethics
02:37
of our professional association called
02:39
sedans
02:40
that means we're very very crystal clear
02:42
that to meet the code
02:44
confidentiality is an imperative
