Veterans' Affairs NZ - What if I disagree with your decision?
00:03
if you disagree with the decision we have made then you have a couple of options available to
00:08
remedy the situation firstly you can talk to us and if there's been a mistake we can possibly
00:13
put things right without having to go through a formal review or if the reason for the decision is
00:18
not clear and you'd like it explained just let us know if there is new information that may support
00:24
your claim we'd like to hear about that and we'll see if it could change the claim decision you can
00:30
ask for a formal review within six months of being notified of a decision a review officer will look
00:35
into your case and determine if the decision is correct you can find the application forms for
00:40
that on our website it is helpful if you tell us why you don't agree and to send us any extra
00:46
information that you'd like us to consider you can request an appeal if you disagree with the outcome
00:51
of your review your case will be considered by the independent veterans entitlement appeal board
00:56
at a hearing which you can attend by video or teleconference or in person if you're in new
01:02
zealand again you'll find the link for that on our website and if you still disagree with the outcome
01:07
you can appeal to the high court of New Zealand you can ask for a decision to be reconsidered
01:11
if things have changed since we made our original decision for example an application may have been
01:16
denied because deployment wasn't considered to be qualified in operational service at the time of
01:22
the claim however if that deployment does qualify later you can ask us to reconsider our decision
01:27
you can also apply for reconsideration anytime if you have any new information that has not been
01:33
considered before we may then reconsider your claim contact us if you'd like to talk about it
