Health & Wellbeing Series - Session 5: Whānau Wellbeing & Support
0:05
hey hey hey hey I can't see it you see SL
0:21
anymore morning everybody um and welcome to today's uh Wednesday well-being
0:27
webinar which is focusing in on uh farno well-being and support we're very
0:33
fortunate today to have not one but four different presenters who will work
0:39
through uh a lot of information that um we will be providing links to later
0:45
through ddms so don't feel that you uh rushed in trying to write information
0:51
down as it's presented to you but we'll be hearing from uh Colonel Clare Bennett
0:56
and Antonia Nicholson from uh the who's the director of integrated uh
1:02
wellness and uh from Antonia who's the uh national manager of Social Services
1:08
and then from Nikki beer who is one of our nzdf social workers and she's based
1:13
in trentham and then we will hear from do Conor who is one of uh our defense
1:19
community community facilitators so as I've said the session's very much meant to be informative but I also urge you
1:27
and encourage you that if you are looking to engage to engage early and
1:33
seek out the support that's available and there is a lot of support available so please um take the opportunity as
1:42
soon as you possibly can we are using the question and answer function today
1:48
that provides you with an opportunity to um pose some questions to the presenters uh myself and my colleague
1:56
Wendy we will be uh looking to convey those questions to the speakers uh at
2:03
the end of the session so we won't be interrupting them throughout their presentation but please use that
2:09
question and answer function to pose your questions uh I'd like to um open the
2:16
session begin the session by um starting with uh kakia so you hopefully are all
2:22
familiar with or reasonbly familiar with timatanga um so if you would like to
2:28
take your mics off and join me in um in in in the kak
2:35
here to to
2:57
myo and I'll hand over to Le Bennett to begin the
3:03
presentation K thank you Frank we're just loading the presentation just be with us for a
3:09
second all righty that was a
3:19
second awesome thanks very much everybody for joining us today on this really important topic uh I know that
3:26
this is one of a a series of presentations that we've had in the area of well-being and it's fantastic to um
3:34
ensure that we are thinking about our families as an important part of that uh so in due course we're going to run
3:42
through the team as uh Frank has said and uh talk about
3:47
um firstly sort of being able to recognize and understand perhaps some of the impacts on our families uh secondly
3:53
thinking about uh some of the tips that uh we already have available to us for
3:59
navigation through and then about the range of support services that are available for families if they need a
4:05
helping hand so it you know as everybody with the family will um I'm sure
4:11
recognize and understand families are really important to us and when they're not going okay we're not going okay we
4:19
know that uh family units are a reflection of broader Society so there's a lot going on at the moment and um as I
4:25
talk about in a minute life is busy these days so there a range of stresses that our families in the defense
4:32
Community are not immune to and um military fam families in particular can
4:37
face additional challenges um long periods uh when partners are away on
4:42
military service dislocation from the usual communities and support services associated with postings and moving
4:49
around the countryside and uh as I think everybody would agree change in uncertainty can be
4:54
stressful and it's quite likely and understandable that some families may be worried at the moment about some of the
5:00
potential changes happening in nzdf and uh talk about the workforce Savings
5:06
Program um so we'll just work through um and uh uh I know that many of you would
5:12
have joined the earlier webinars that uh Alana Stone and um the broad team have
5:19
presented on resilience and stress and managing change so a lot of that information and those resources and
5:25
tools are very applicable uh whether we're family members as civilian Workforce and our military members U and
5:32
as I've said in it by way of introduction life is busy these days so we have what's going on in our home
5:38
environment um you know particularly we know at the moment Financial pressures is a big thing for people um there's um
5:45
busy jobs whether they be civilian jobs or um military roles and that can put
5:50
pressure on us as well and those sorts of things can impact on things like our ability to sleep our relationships and
5:57
so forth so stress is accumulative but as you would have heard in the earlier presentations everybody has a Breaking
6:03
Point the nature of those stresses will be different but there are some things that we can do to help ourselves stay
6:09
resilient through the difficult times I'm sorry this is a busy slide but
6:16
um I thought I'd get it all into one slide so um liutenant Colonel Stone would have talked previously about the
6:22
big five and the range of strategies that we promote across nzd for helping ourselves stay okay during um
6:30
challenging times uh there's some real Basics around healthy habits the importance of exercise eating well
6:36
making sure we get enough sleep and so forth and a focus on the four domains of the F up of far so the physical health
6:43
and mental health um uh focus on families and F and wura and the things
6:49
that are important to us and sometimes those things get lost when we're feeling a little bit stressed uh also hopefully
6:57
you're all familiar with the mental health continuum uh that's in many of our resources and you can find it online
7:02
it's a really good good little check uh to use to monitor how we and um our
7:09
loved ones are going over time um also presented here you'll see the bucket
7:14
model of resilience I think it's a really nice way of thinking about our well-being and how we're tracking we
7:20
know that there are things that are going to challenge us over time they'll be different for different people and
7:25
depending on our life stages some of those things we've got no control over so one of the the important strategies
7:32
is to recognize those things that you do have control over and to make a plan for action um while those things that we
7:39
don't have control over recognizing it and not letting it um get to us more than um um it may otherwise do there's
7:47
also a lot of things so those are sorts of things that may be draining a bucket of resilience over time there's also
7:53
some things that we can do to keep our bucket of resilience full and again they'll be different for different people but uh for example from a family
8:01
perspective it's making sure that we're having open conversations with our families talking about what's going on
8:07
and coming up with a plan to navigate together making sure that we spend time doing the things that are important to
8:13
us uh particularly time with family uh and um making sure that we we protect
8:19
that time even though there may be other things going on and as I mentioned before the importance of some basic
8:25
things like exercise and nutrition and sleep which can get forgotten about when we're feeling a little bit under the gun
8:32
so I'm just going to hand over to Tony now to talk about um the range of
8:37
support services and tools that are available the things that we can access to self-manage and I really encourage
8:43
people if you are feeling that you're a little bit stressed and recognizing that that you get on to those things early um
8:50
you know if by doing that you're likely to be able to navigate your way through no issues um sometimes you may need a
8:56
helping hand and we've got a lot of information and support available for that
9:02
too so I'm now going to hand over to Antonia Nicholson who's our lead social services manager welcome Tony thanks K
9:10
CLE uh K defense Foo um Tony Nicholson I'm going to talk with you about the
9:16
amazing range of information resources tools tips strategies uh that you and
9:22
your farno can jump into um this is a slide with a lot of information on it but we're going to work our way through
9:28
these elements just uh focusing on some really key important ones that you can
9:33
jump into at anytime so we really want to highlight our defense Health website
9:40
called putah um it has a heap of really helpful information on it your Faro can jump
9:46
into this it's on the freev view Internet space um so we've just highlighted some of the uh tools that
9:54
you can jump into on this website um so it has uh EX to headspace which is a
10:01
mental health support app we can jump into the force Financial Hub hopefully
10:06
everyone knows about that um now within defense where you can get some ideas and strategies on financial um Health uh it
10:15
also has home base a link to home base which is for people who have members deployed and there are a range of tools
10:22
and strategies that you can actually uh self-help with on this website I also
10:28
want to highlight just down the bottom of the slide it talks about the wonderful um support team that we have
10:34
in defense um we're really lucky to have such great people out there that you can
10:39
go and connect with early um so we've got our awesome defense Community facilitated is located at each Camp base
10:47
our social workers who are available for the wider defense Community our chaplain likewise and then the 0800 NZ D for you
10:55
wellbeing support which we'll talk about a little bit more going forwards um can we just jump into the next slide
11:02
team I've got the awesome team uh helping with advancing our slides thank
11:08
you so much so just really want to highlight the NZ dfu well-being support line the
11:14
0800 uh 693 348 so this servic is 247
11:19
it's a phone helpline um it's completely confidential unless there are some um
11:25
risks that the call takers notice um it's available to The Wider defense
11:30
community so uniform civilians veterans and for family members if the issue is
11:36
linked to the defense um members Service uh so the people picking up the phone uh
11:43
for you were a mental health trained professionals and they can link you to other ongoing counseling support
11:50
services so really encourage you you'll see the link down the bottom of this page to um access more information about
11:58
this service really encourage you to have a look at that um and this presentation will be coming out or
12:04
available for you afterwards so all the links will be accessible for you so team
12:10
if we could jump into the next slide that would be great um so the
12:16
defense Health Website has amazing resources on it um it's got information
12:22
about every facet of your life we know that you and your Foo have already a
12:28
heap of um pooping strategies and tools that you will have used during other
12:35
challenging times and we don't want you to forget those but we want to also
12:41
share with you other resources and strategies that may be useful for you at this time I want to reiterate what Kel
12:47
clear and Frank have said um we want you to uh access the support if you notice
12:56
changes either in yourself or your Faro your Pho might tell you something like
13:01
we've noticed that you've gone a bit quiet or you might find yourself maybe withdrawing and not um enjoying life so
13:08
much that's the time to come and put your hand up and access these self-help
13:13
resources uh I just want to highlight there's information on there about healthy relationships we've got some um
13:19
videos there from a relationship counselor we've got support for um
13:25
holistic health for you and your farno um we've got all sorts of links to the
13:31
internal and external help and support services so that's the defense Health
13:36
Website just putting a plugin for that again and Nikki if you could jump into
13:43
the next slide um so Colonel CLE mentioned earlier um it's really
13:49
important to keep Communication open and I'm doing another plug for that sometimes we meet with people and notice
13:56
that uh they haven't figured out that their communication's dropped off until
14:02
something they reach kind of a crisis point we wanted to give you a slide on some tools and tips about at this time
14:09
keeping your Communications open with those around you both in the workspace but the home space we've given you just
14:15
some um a few key ideas about how to communicate in a healthy way um actually
14:22
being upfront and honest if you're not doing so well um with each other that's for both all part actually um having a
14:31
bit of a plan about what to do before you might reach uh a space where you're
14:36
not feeling so great as so actually doing some of that pre-planning being really caring and supportive of each
14:42
other being really nurturing and recognizing that it is a tricky time we're coming up to Christmas at the
14:48
moment you are a team with your Faro um you will be a team you are always a team
14:53
that will always be there and some ideas about how to um pump up the ties in that space and then just if you are noticing
15:00
that you're getting a bit I call it Itchy and Scratchy with each other um actually jumping in early and trying to
15:08
um prevent their escalating um so we just wanted to help you with a few of those tools and tips
15:13
they will be available after the presentation really great to have you all on board and thanks for your time
15:20
I'm going to hand over to Niki awesome social worker slide
15:31
and oh sorry I forgot to mention the force force for families that's my bad I am coming to you for my car that's my
15:38
excuse um so I just really want to pump up the tires on the force for families website and we've left this slide till
15:45
last because it's really cool it is a very popular site um you can jump in here to find out more about um
15:53
entitlements and benefits that you are able to access by being a member of the
15:58
NZ F so really encourage you to jump into this one it's a great site and now
16:04
over to Nikki thanks Tony um everyone nikoa I'm
16:12
the social worker based in tii at um and today is just a bit of a timely reminder
16:17
or a gentle reminder to let all of you know about the amazing support services that we have in the nzdf um a reminder
16:24
that there are social workers across every camp and base uh and most places there is's more than one um and the
16:31
social work service is accessible for all ncdf people so that's for uniformed people as well as all of our civilian
16:37
employees um and we can engage with yourselves and your partners um and your
16:43
Faro um we who do we work with obviously so
16:48
we work with the uniform uniformed peirs and partners of uniformed people as well as civilian employees and their partners
16:54
and we can try and do some work with farno where capacity allows and working with you to to uh engage your family in
17:01
a good um and what their wound support looks like for your family and that might be sort of including external
17:06
Support Services as well um lots of different issues that social workers work with uh no day is ever the same um
17:13
so we work in the space of mental health and well-being um alcohol substance misuse gambling and addiction uh
17:21
relationships lots of work in the relationship space obviously um as Clea mentioned previously we do put a lot of
17:27
pressure on our military people around postings um and being dislocated from their family units and that can put a
17:32
lot of pressure on relationships uh and also particularly at the moment with the financial strain everyone's experiencing
17:38
and the um I guess the unpredictability of what's happening in the organization
17:44
at the moment that also can put strain on relationships and cause issues back home too we work with people around
17:49
housing uh relocation uh postings and compassionate postings um work with
17:55
people around the workplace issues so bullying harassment and discrimination and we support people who would like to
18:01
um submit a formal complaint and we work with people in the military formal complaint process as well as a civilian
18:07
formal complaint process we work in the space of Family Violence so obviously we've got our amazing steppers on board
18:14
who work in the space of harmful sexual violence uh and our social workers work in the space of family violence and the
18:20
capacity of the likes of physical violence um emotional and psychological violence and coercive control so we work
18:26
with people around making um support plans um and safety plans uh and linking
18:32
people in with uh support services that are external to nzdf and there's a lot
18:37
of advocacy that happens in that space too obviously with Family Violence uh everyone in New Zealand is entitled to 10 days of Family Violence leave so it's
18:44
around educating uh command um around command and management about that that leave and what our people need who are
18:51
experiencing Family Violence whether they're using Family Violence or are are the victim Survivor of Family Violence
18:58
when we work with people in the Family Court space um so Family Court can be super tricky uh it can be quite complex
19:05
um and we work with people around parenting support as well um and it's just around walking alongside people in
19:11
that space and making sure that they're fully informed and aware um of the process and have that support guiding
19:17
them through uh Financial Health so around budgeting uh and linking people in with supports when things are pretty
19:23
tight um so we do have some amazing resources at ndf uh and D you might be talking a little bit about those later
19:30
on um so we can um we lean on RSA for a bit of support um and you know there's
19:37
sort of different um pockets of funding that we can access when people are finding things a bit a bit difficult but
19:44
also linking people and with external Support Services as well uh advocacy is a huge part of the social work role um
19:52
so we've got uh two pretty key functions and that's around being the bridge between um people uh and their chain of
19:59
command or their manager um obviously there's a hierarchical structure within
20:05
defense and it definitely has its place um but there's also times where for example younger command might find it
20:11
difficult uh to approach their command and so it's making sure that people have a voice and we and they feel supported to do that so advocating for them in
20:17
that space to make sure that they have a very safe supportive and inclusive working environment um and also advocacy
20:24
for linking people in with external support services so the social part of Social Work is uh it's our it's our job
20:31
to know about all the amazing social supports that people can access outside the wire um and so each social worker in
20:37
their regions will have a wealth of knowledge about the supports that people can access in their local regions um
20:43
sexuality gender identity so providing guidance and support around that and linking them with linking them with the
20:49
right supports and also disciplinary issues so um that might be uh in the
20:54
military scene in terms of Court Marshals and summary trials um and it's or with our sapers who work with people
21:01
who have experienced um sexual harm the social workers will work with the people who are accused of causing
21:07
sexual harm it's really important that all of our people have a right to access support services and to have support walking them through uh that
21:14
process um and disciplinary issues also um obviously in the HR side for uh our
21:20
civilian employees making sure that they're supported in those sit situations as well um who can refer to the social
21:27
workers pretty much one uh our most common referrals I think would probably be self referrals and referrals from
21:33
command or managers um we might get the we might get people walk in knock on the door flick you flick you a text or an
21:39
email um we get referrals through our defense Health Centers so from our medical officers as well as our complex
21:45
case coordinators and the nurses sometimes we do get contacted by family members like Tony was saying previously
21:51
you know if a family member sort of notices that you're not tracking well and you've become a little bit more withdrawn they might touch base with the
21:57
social worker and uh let know about the concerns um so that we can make sure that they're gripped up with good support obviously um sometimes asking
22:04
for support is one of the hardest things to do um and so family members can often step forward and um try and get them
22:11
their family the support that they need uh we operate as part of a wellness team and so we do uh kind of pass the
22:18
ball to each other from time to time um so we work alongside Chaplin sepas our defense Community facilitators our dsos
22:25
our deployed service officers and our or sees um so yeah pretty much anyone can
22:31
refer to the Social Work Service uh a key reminder today is also about the external support services our
22:37
people can access um and so these can be accessed by our military people as well
22:42
as our civilian people and family works is a really good one it is a um it's a
22:48
social service that's Nationwide and operates in every region around the country and family works as a social
22:54
service that's designed to support people who are experiencing challenging or difficult times um so they do offer
23:01
um social workers and parenting support um support around Family Violence and uh
23:07
counseling as well uh in some regions they offer um like youth programs um and
23:13
the family dispute resolution uh as a service they provide when people are going through a divorce or separation um
23:20
and are wanting to resolve things before going to the family courts another another couple of good services that can
23:26
be accessed uh local uh local and across the region is
23:31
Presbyterian support and Salvation Army and the support services that they offer uh and each region can differ and so uh
23:39
it would be great for you to contact your local social worker and then they'll be able to point you in the
23:44
right direction of what services are available uh and lastly just a reminder
23:49
about all the helplines so there are these are external to defense we've obviously got our r800 nzd for you which
23:55
is 24/7 um and that's awesome and we've also got a list of external help lines
24:00
here uh which are also available 24/7 um and so there's the need to talk so you
24:05
can uh call or text there's health line the depression helpline anx anxiety helpline alcohol and drug helpline and
24:12
safe to talk which is around the sexual harm gambling help line and youth line for any of uh you with young people at
24:20
home um I think that was all from me and now
24:26
I'm going to hand over to my lovely colleague um D Oona who is our defense Community
24:33
facilitator more inner everybody so welcome uh to the um my
24:41
side of this chat um I've just got to congratulate the three wahini who have just gone before us and Frank but um
24:48
hopefully I can I can give you some a bit more uh tip tips and tricks uh from my side so defense Community facilitator
24:56
what does that mean so we are a a group of individuals um over our camps and
25:04
bases there are six Army DCFS and one DCC and there are four Air Force uh DCFS
25:11
and the Navy have a well-being Suite um in um devonport the uh DCF um or DCFS um we
25:20
work either collectively with our wellbeing team or we can work individually uh as a um with our I don't
25:28
want to say client um they're far now at the end of the day um whether we're military civilians or our family members
25:35
who come to see us uh one thing that we will point out is we're not clinicians in the respect that um we're not uh have
25:44
a social workers degree or um any sort of Masters however what we do bring to
25:50
the table is that we are either married to an individual in the organization uh
25:58
like I am um or we have served uh like I have um or we've just got a very good
26:05
understanding in the well-being space that our DCS offer so at the moment for
26:12
Testament I can actually say that I've used uh quite a few of resources cuz my husband is currently deployed uh and is
26:18
on a six-month deployment so Nikki has been um a bit of my backbone for me
26:25
actually I should be passing doing that sorry my my bed so um so reference uh the
26:32
DCFS uh like Nikki our social workers we will rely on either direct contact from
26:38
an individual or referral basis and that could be Nikki knocking on my door to help arrange some meals or some vouches
26:47
uh for an individual um and same with our chapain and our sepas but we will
26:53
not uh councel um our far that come to
26:59
visit us and I'm also just just for your uh
27:04
FYI this is a generic uh sort of um discussion on the DCF because each camp
27:10
and base are unique and how they handle um their intoe
27:17
community so our network uh like all social workers and our um well-being
27:23
team we have a vast uh group of people that we can tap into ourselves
27:28
um outside of this organization and internally as well um the Army Works
27:34
slightly different to the Air Force DCFS and that we work a project one way which
27:39
basically just means that uh we are aligned um and there's a variance of say up to 20% difference but ultimately if
27:47
you are in the Army and you posted from Linton to Tren them or train them to
27:52
Burnham for example the uh expectation would be the processes would be the same
28:00
they might just do slightly things slightly different but your family should be able to uh
28:07
integrate into that Community just as what the from the one they've just left um in the
28:14
community um what else can we do so as you can see from the slide um the DCS
28:20
can drawn external providers for for simple and quick scenarios and that could be something as simple as
28:26
someone's come to us for budgeting again we wouldn't walk them through it we'll walk with them but we will often have
28:33
the resources to hand them uh to help them on their way Child Care is quite a
28:39
simple one if someone's posted to the area and or finding a school the other thing the DCFS manage
28:45
uh which is a huge privilege that we ho hold are the F monaris which are our well-being homes that we have across the
28:55
organization um and they are spefic specifically there for welfare related
29:00
um situations so that could be domestic violence separation uh a visitation for
29:06
a parent uh a medical or even a bereavement so if you're needing
29:11
something like that you would contact your local um DCF so our community so um this
29:19
particular slide was from an event that we ran with Nigel lettera uh through the integrated Wellness here at hibs um
29:27
College so we can arrange um call events like
29:33
that sort of um thing um sorry someone's just slipped something in front of me
29:40
um so so we'll arrange um events um obviously one thing that we're not
29:47
governed by is we don't have funding to rely on um to help sort of provide the
29:54
services that we do so we have to rely on what we call the UPF um or we will get sponsorship from um
30:02
the RSA so and in the event that we have emergency accommodation uh we can get
30:09
Welfare grants um from the welfare funds um sorry about
30:17
that anyway getting back to the fun side of our job um so we we as a DCFS obviously try
30:27
and balance the the SB with the fun so we will run things like um annual family
30:33
days in our camps so for Tren them we run the forces in the Park which is um
30:39
every February and then we'll also run our big hwi event which we've just done recently and that um we will run for a
30:48
charity and then we'll um work and then we will fundraise like we just did with
30:54
the recent one um and the good thing about the DCs if we can work in small
30:59
groups or large Gatherings and as it states at the very bottom of that slide the RSA will uh fund our food vouchers
31:06
and petrol vouches to assist families in need during
31:11
hardship okay my lucky last my last sliders that image you can see there is of our forces in the park so this is one
31:19
of our biggest events that we run here in trenam um sure each camping base um
31:24
have their own fun activities but this activity uh allows the DCF and our well-being team
31:32
just to sort of gauge how our families are doing whilst it's a fun event just
31:38
walking around and talking to them um will give them a um give you an understanding of of how the um feel it
31:45
in the in the neighborhood but if you're not from trenam um then I would highly recommend
31:53
that you reach out to your local DCF in your cample base dport slightly
31:58
different they have a well-being team but the ladies um on those camps and bases and I'm happy to provide you their
32:04
details at the end of this um going forward so and have a great day thank
32:13
you and I I just uh in um so concluding we'll take any questions but uh I just
32:19
would really like to um reinforce the um the great work that uh Nikki and D
32:25
particular in particular do it strength them they're both extremely hardworking the range of community events and
32:32
activities that um um D has has been centrally involved in often in
32:37
partnership with other people is amazing and she's just shared you know she's got a partner who's away at the moment uh
32:43
and yet she still gets the job done so um yeah they're just fantastic resources
32:48
we're so lucky to have them thanks thank
32:53
you so Frank I don't know if you want to pick it up and um consider whether there
32:59
were any questions uh yes so thanks very much C I'll I'll just jump in and I
33:05
would um reiterate what you just said um it was quite refreshing D to hear that
33:10
um you tap into your own resources in a sense or the resources available to you and really does highlight the fact that
33:17
at different times we all need just a little bit uh a little bit more support um with the challenges that we're facing
33:24
and that it's it's okay to ask for help I think that's a big part of the messaging today is that we have the
33:30
support we have the uh the availability of support both inside nzdf and links to
33:37
the external Community to access these uh these different um Avenues of support
33:43
and we should be quicker or at least reader to perhaps tap into them um there
33:51
there were a few questions that came through um I think on one of the slides
33:56
there was mentioned of a wellbeing Expo I just saw it highlighted on and just
34:03
are you able to explain a little bit more about that D you just you put your hand up so maybe but obviously a
34:09
question directed to all three of you or four of you I should say so um Lon and
34:16
trick them um we run our expose annually um and Bam also do the expose I can't
34:23
speak for Air Force obviously but um that's done once a year we bring an external provider ERS as well as using
34:28
our internal um providers in Camp that could be anything from having a um defense Health um who run blood tests
34:36
mine's going up at the moment speaking um what else what else do we have so we
34:43
have a we have a whole raft of um yeah providers who come in like
34:48
education um people are transitioning out of the organization for example just
34:54
IID for people who needed to talk about things like um um if they're paying child support there's a we have in
35:02
between 45 to 50 providers who come in and they're solely there for our
35:07
community that's for our military our civilians and our families so yeah so that's annually so keep an eye out for
35:13
them in your areas so that that would be my next question was how often they were so that that annual uh I think there was
35:22
a uh a session run in defense house um couple of months back uh
35:30
and yes there was the offer of having my blood pressure um tested um I I passed
35:37
on that but I was impressed by the range of providers that were there some of them seemed to also have training uh
35:46
emphasis on other trainings and learning that's available to um nzdf staff and
35:52
just for real Clarity anything that's available to our regular forces and their families is also available to
36:00
civilians uh in our organization as well so um so for example the uh
36:10
universities um and cre from and the other education providers um it's 50%
36:16
discount and that also includes your families as well so it's just a matter of of engaging with us we'll get you the
36:23
information and then we can they can then go forward and work with the
36:28
provider but there's some um tips and tricks and benefits that often we we
36:33
don't or forget to tell our our organiz you know our people so but believe you me if if we can give it or or get it um
36:41
to help then we yeah we'll do it right and if I can just add to that too Frank
36:47
the the force for families website has a lot of information about a range of benefits for example discounts that
36:53
might attend um as as de mentioned the access to um subsid University education
36:59
but there's a lot of stuff in there accommodation Etc rental car discounts so you know people possibly are not
37:05
aware of those and they're quite possibly not aware that their families can access them as well so it's just a matter of registering on that
37:12
site yeah I'd certainly encourage people if they haven't already taken advantage of doing that uh as someone who finds
37:20
themselves that might attend most weekends it's useful to remember that there is a discount available to um nzdf
37:28
staff yeah um in the in the sense of supporting a a a staff members a
37:35
civilian members uh partner or spouse they can access some of the
37:41
support that's available as well yeah Absolut well I think a lot of
37:49
um what has been talked about um you know in terms of um you know chapy and
37:54
Social Work Services Etc um the social workers and the chap will work with um the the families um you know the
38:01
military or civilian members and um where it's relevant to bring in families uh and where the issues are defense
38:08
related correct okay just to expand on that so if we have um so obviously the
38:16
the services that can be offered between civilians and Military are slightly different so for example our military
38:22
people we can refer to clinical psychologists or the likes of um sort of family therapy depending on what the
38:28
issues are and how that's impacting them in the workspace um civilians have access to EAP uh which is the six fre
38:34
sessions uh which is renewed every Financial year um but we do work with
38:39
families in the sense of um you know if someone is having um you know is having
38:45
issues with their mental health you know it's really important to bring in the fno as part of that support plan um and thinking about how that might impact
38:52
other Faro members and thinking about what resources that we can uh tap into externally like the social services
38:58
outside the way that we can get that family gripped up with so kind of doing that advocacy part again and being the
39:03
gateway to linking people in with those Services um but we work directly with um civilian employees as well as their
39:11
Partners marvelous thank you I I think that's the uh the main sort of questions
39:18
that we've we have received if uh and obviously I'm sure if other people have
39:24
questions they can as we're encouraging them to do reach out to you um or or to
39:29
your colleagues for answers to questions and where they need to engage so um I
39:37
again I thank you all four of you for uh your your the work that you've put in the effort that you've put in in
39:42
providing this information I think um what I what I noticed from the slide de is there is a lot of information to
39:49
process and people do need to jump back in we will make the presentations uh available uh this week
39:58
uh through ddms and people should uh access those more at their Leisure and work through what's
40:05
available so if there's no um sort of final comments from uh from yourself
40:10
Clea from you Nick D or from Antonia I will um close the session with um the
40:18
caraka and um allow us to get back to our the rest of our day
40:25
and we're for forun and having a little bit of time before lunch so this is uh F
40:32
mutanga Kia fi tiu
40:38
ktia Ki fakat k
40:49
f thank you very much all of you for your attendance today and um I hope you
40:55
have a a great day thank you all very much thanks
hey hey hey hey I can't see it you see SL
0:21
anymore morning everybody um and welcome to today's uh Wednesday well-being
0:27
webinar which is focusing in on uh farno well-being and support we're very
0:33
fortunate today to have not one but four different presenters who will work
0:39
through uh a lot of information that um we will be providing links to later
0:45
through ddms so don't feel that you uh rushed in trying to write information
0:51
down as it's presented to you but we'll be hearing from uh Colonel Clare Bennett
0:56
and Antonia Nicholson from uh the who's the director of integrated uh
1:02
wellness and uh from Antonia who's the uh national manager of Social Services
1:08
and then from Nikki beer who is one of our nzdf social workers and she's based
1:13
in trentham and then we will hear from do Conor who is one of uh our defense
1:19
community community facilitators so as I've said the session's very much meant to be informative but I also urge you
1:27
and encourage you that if you are looking to engage to engage early and
1:33
seek out the support that's available and there is a lot of support available so please um take the opportunity as
1:42
soon as you possibly can we are using the question and answer function today
1:48
that provides you with an opportunity to um pose some questions to the presenters uh myself and my colleague
