Pool facility

Ohakea has two swimming pools available to all service personnel and base civilian employees including their family. They are supervised by a qualified lifeguard during open hours.

Use of the Swimming Pool by Children

Children must be 8 years and over, and able to swim 2 lengths of the pool and tread water for 2 minutes, to be able to qualify to swim without parent supervision. This must be observed and signed off by one of the lifeguards. Children under the age of 8 need to be actively supervised by a parent or guardian who is over 16 years old, consents to act as guardian, and has the approval of the child’s parent to act as guardian.

Toddlers Pool

This area is closed during the winter season as it is not heated (Daylight Saving determines open/closure dates). The toddlers pool is only to be used by children under the age of seven years and by children who are non-swimmers. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times while using the toddlers pool.

Pool users are to adhere to the following:

  1. If you have had diarrhoea (upset tummy) in the last 2 weeks, do not swim
  2. Take your children to the toilet before they go swimming, and wash their hands
  3. Shower before entering the pool
  4. Children still in nappies must wear waterproof nappies at all times while using the toddlers or adult pool
