OHAKEA DHC CLOSEDOWN 2023 – REOPEN 2024
1. Medical Defence Health Centre Ohakea (DHC OH) will operate at a reduced capacity with limited staffing and appointments from 1200h on 15 Dec 23. DHC OH will be closed from 1200h Friday 22 December 2023 and reopen on Monday 08 January 2024 at a reduced capacity. Regular appointments will resume from 0800h Monday 15 January 2024.
2. First Response Team The Base First Response Team (FRT) will operate at a reduced/limited capacity during the reduced staffing period and will be unavailable from 1200h Friday 22 December 2023 for the entire closedown period. The FRT emergency phone (ext 7-111, option 2) will not be monitored during the closedown period.
3. We advise all Service personnel of the following in order to access to health care during this Christmas and New Year break.
a. For accident and medical emergencies, dial 111 (1-111 if on base) or attend your nearest Emergency Health Care provider.
b. For all non-urgent medical advice please phone Health line on 0800 611 116.
c. For Covid19 related advice please phone Covid19 Health line 0800 358 5453.
d. For any acute illness or an injury requiring urgent attention, Service Personnel can access any Medical Provider without referral by a Duty Medic or MO.
e. The approved Manawatu medical services are below:
(1) City Doctors 22 Victoria Avenue, PALMERSTON NORTH, Phone: (06) 355 3300.
(a) This is the preferred option as personnel can attend City Doctors and produce their ID card. This will enable City Doctors to send the bill and treatments notes directly to the DHC for inclusion in their medical file. Personnel will not need to pay if using City Doctors.
(2) The Palms, 445 Ferguson Street, PALMERSTON NORTH, Phone: (06) 354 7737.
(3) Bulls/Marton Duty Doctor, 71 High Street, BULLS, Phone Bulls Medical on (06) 3221222 and listen to answer phone message.
(4) Feilding Duty Doctor, Phone: (06) 3555200 and listen to the answer phone message.
(5) Whanganui Accident and Medical, co-located with Whanganui Hospital, next to Emergency Department, 100 Heads Road, Whanganui, Phone: (06) 3481300.
f. Ohakea Duty Medic is available on 021 716 290 for guidance and advice. Duty Medic response to Base Ohakea is revised at 1 hours response time to incident site if required.
4. Payment at the chosen Medical Centre (except City Doctors) will be required by the service person at the time of appointment and can be claimed for reimbursement via electronic claims or MD990. Full receipts for the after-hours appointment, any prescription charges, and copies of the notes for inclusion in your medical file are required to support your claim.
5. Requests for repeat prescriptions are to be submitted to the DHC by 1200h 14 December 23 in order to allow for processing by clinical and admin staff. Allow 48 hours for these to be completed.
a. Please email your rescript requests to Ohakea E-Medicine Ohakea.E-Medicine@nzdf.mil.nz, or by phoning 06 351 5132, you will need to supply the following information:
(1) Service number;
(2) Name of medication required; and
(3) Dose required.
